Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid

In this Lifesaving Society certification course you will gain an understanding of lifesaving principles in water rescue. Candidates do 500m endurance timed swim, and learn tows, rescues involving conscious victims, and stroke efficiency. Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 13 years old by the exam date, and must have good stroke mechanics and swimming fitness. This course includes the Emergency First Aid certification. The Canadian Lifesaving Manual is included in the course fee. This is a 10-day course.

Bronze Cross

This Lifesaving Society certification course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training. This award is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including the National Lifeguard Service award and Instructor certification. A Canadian Lifesaving Manual is required for the course and can be purchased in person at the membership office. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid, participants must be at least 14 years old  by the exam date. This is a 10-day course.

NLS Full Course Certification

National Lifeguard Training builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge and values taught in the earlier lifesaving awards of the Society. NLS is the only recognized standard Lifeguarding certificate in Canada. Prerequisites: Bronze Cross (need not be current), participants must be at least 16 years old by the exam date, Standard First Aid and CPR-C, - current within 2 years from date of certification. Full attendance is manditory. The Alert Lifeguarding in Action manual is included in the course cost.

NLS Recertification

This is a 5 hour clinic to recertify the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard Service award. Prerequisite: Registrants must have an NLS within 5 years of the certification date. Registrants must also have a current Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer certification. Bring your certification cards to the clinic.

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Recertification

The Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification must be renewed every two years to remain valid. This 5-hour course will cover the updates for the New Red Cross Swim Program and water rescue and teaching modules. Prerequisite: A Red Cross WSI certificate issued no more than five years from the certification date. Bring card and instructor manual to clinic.
