Swim Instruction
There are 4 different levels of classes in swimming to provide people of all abilities a chance to improve their comfort, technique and fitness in swimming: Absolute Beginner, Basic, and Stroke Mechanics and Swim Training. Women’s-only classes are offered for those who prefer or require privacy. Unless otherwise stated, all classes take place in the spring and summer sessions.
Absolute Beginner
Our qualified instructors introduce the very basics of swimming skills: buoyancy, breathing, submerging face in the water and propulsion. Classes start in the shallow end to prepare students for basic water safety and advance to deeper water and more difficult skills when swimmers are ready. Taught in the shallow end.

Basic Swim
Participants are taught 2 basic strokes – front and back crawl. This course begins in the shallow end and participants are introduced to treading water and deep water skills when they are ready. Swimmers must be able to swim 10 metres on their front with their face submerged and 10 metres on their back before taking this course.

Intermediate Swim
Swimmers continue to work on front crawl and spend more time on deep water skills. Prerequisite: participants must be able to swim 20M on their fronts and backs.
Stroke Mechanics
This course focuses on improving stroke technique in front and back crawl. Breaststroke, deep-water dives and other strokes may also be taught. 25-metre front crawl, back crawl and deep water comfort are required for taking this course.

Women’s-Only Swim Classes
A selection of aquatics classes are run but are offered for women only. No men are permitted in the pool area and blinds are drawn to ensure privacy. These classes run on Mondays for 8 weeks.
